Getting Started
Welcome to Silkscreen! This guide will help you set up and start organizing your screenshots in minutes.
Silkscreen is available for both iPhone and Mac. While each app works independently, they're even better together - enabling instant screenshot sync between your devices.
Quick Start
- Download Silkscreen from the App Store (iPhone) or Mac App Store
- Open the app and sign in with your account (or create one)
- Create your first folder to start organizing
- Take a screenshot and assign it to a folder
Installation
iPhone
- Open the App Store on your iPhone
- Search for "Silkscreen"
- Tap "Get" to download and install
- Open Silkscreen and follow the setup prompts
Mac
- Open the Mac App Store
- Search for "Silkscreen"
- Click "Get" to download and install
- Open Silkscreen from your Applications folder
- Grant the necessary permissions when prompted
Required Permissions
Silkscreen requires certain permissions to function properly:
- Photos Access (iPhone): To read and organize your screenshots
- Local Network (Both): To sync screenshots between devices
- Notifications (Optional): To alert you when screenshots sync
Creating Folders
Folders are the foundation of your screenshot organization. Create as many as you need to categorize your captures.
On iPhone
- Open Silkscreen and go to the Folders tab
- Tap the
+button in the top right - Enter a name for your folder
- Optionally choose a color or icon
- Tap "Create" to save
On Mac
- Open Silkscreen
- Click "New Folder" in the sidebar or press
Cmd + N - Enter a name and press Return
Folder Ideas
Not sure how to organize? Here are some common folder structures:
- By Topic: Recipes, Shopping, Travel, Work, Inspiration
- By Project: Home Renovation, Wedding Planning, App Ideas
- By Type: Conversations, Memes, References, Receipts
Organizing Screenshots
Instant Organization (iPhone)
When you take a screenshot on iPhone, Silkscreen can prompt you to organize it immediately:
- Take a screenshot as usual (Side button + Volume Up)
- The Silkscreen quick action appears in the corner
- Tap it to see your folders
- Select a folder to save, or tap "Later" to organize later
Bulk Organization
Have existing screenshots to organize? Use bulk selection:
- Go to the "Unsorted" view
- Tap "Select" (iPhone) or hold
Cmdand click (Mac) - Select multiple screenshots
- Choose a destination folder from the action menu
Drag and Drop (Mac)
On Mac, simply drag screenshots between folders in the sidebar. You can also drag screenshots directly from Finder into Silkscreen.
Setting Up Sync
Sync your screenshots instantly between iPhone and Mac. Both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Initial Setup
- Sign in with the same account on both devices
- Ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network
- On Mac, go to Preferences → Sync and enable "Receive from iPhone"
- On iPhone, go to Settings → Sync and enable "Send to Mac"
Pairing Devices
The first time you sync, you'll need to pair your devices:
- On Mac, click "Pair New Device" in Preferences → Sync
- A 6-digit code will appear
- On iPhone, go to Settings → Sync → Pair with Mac
- Enter the code shown on your Mac
- Once paired, devices will automatically connect when on the same network
Using Sync
Once set up, syncing is automatic:
- Take a screenshot on iPhone
- Choose "Send to Mac" from the quick actions
- The screenshot appears on your Mac within seconds
- It lands in the "From iPhone" folder, ready to organize
Search & Filter
Find any screenshot quickly with powerful search capabilities.
Basic Search
- Tap the search bar (iPhone) or press
Cmd + F(Mac) - Type keywords, folder names, or dates
- Results appear instantly as you type
Text Search (OCR)
Silkscreen can find text within your screenshots:
- Search for any text that appears in a screenshot
- Works with messages, websites, documents, and more
- OCR processing happens on-device for privacy
Filters
Narrow down results with filters:
- Date: Today, This Week, This Month, Custom Range
- Folder: Filter by specific folder
- Source: iPhone, Mac, or Synced
- Favorites: Show only favorited screenshots
Sharing Screenshots
Quick Share
- iPhone: Long-press a screenshot and tap "Share"
- Mac: Right-click and choose "Share" or press
Cmd + Shift + S
Share Options
- AirDrop to nearby Apple devices
- Messages, Mail, or other installed apps
- Copy to clipboard for pasting elsewhere
- Save to Files (iPhone) or export to Finder (Mac)

Troubleshooting
Screenshots not syncing
- Ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network
- Check that sync is enabled in both apps
- Verify you're signed in with the same account
- Try re-pairing the devices
Can't find a screenshot
- Check the "Unsorted" folder for unorganized screenshots
- Use search with text from the screenshot
- Check if the screenshot might be in a different folder
App running slow
- Restart the app
- Free up device storage if running low
- Ensure you're running the latest version
